Nice article in SF Gate/the SF Chronicle about a new section of the Sierra that has been opened up to hikers and skiers--courtesy of the Truckee Donner Land Trust. It's a remarkable story, and a section of the Sierra that has been in private hands for more than a hundred years.

Here's the whole story as it appears on the SF Gate website:

We've hiked the area around Castle Peak a few times, both summer and winter, and can attest to the fact that it's lovely. And the option of getting up over the ridge and hidden from I-80 makes this new area even more appealing.

Disturbing trend

We don't hike at the same pace, so we often hike a bit apart...but we always reconnect at every junction and stream crossing... https://www.yahoo.com/news/articles/men-allegedly-abandoning-women-hikes
