A few Days in Yosemite
A beautiful way to welcome the first real rain we've had in months. On a whim, I took a look at the recreation.gov site and found two nights in Yosemite Valley. Score!
So we packed up Le Vin Blanc and drove to the North Pines campground. The first day was glorious, and we basked in the sun and the views from the Valley floor. As we did, we stopped in at the Awhanee and asked if they had room for two for dinner. They did!
Five courses, four glasses of wine, and $350 later. we walked back in the dark to the sleeping bags in our van.
The second day we drove to Glacier Point and hiked to Taft Point, the Fissures, and Sentinel Dome--still our favorite short hike in the park. No crowds, parking was a piece of cake. And the views were as spectacular as ever--even as rain clouds closed in. We took refuge in the van for an afternoon nap, then ate dinner watching a stunning light show as the setting sun flickered over Half Dome.
On day three we danced around the rain, visited the museum to admire the magical collection of baskets there, checked out the climbers sitting out the rain on the ledges of El Capitan, took in the Heliport at Crane Flat, and then ate lunch at the Old Priest Cafe, where we chatted about the good old days with the owner.
Great fun. And a great way to spend a few days of our retirment.
