Speaking of Volunteers

I spent a day helping to finalize the trails in the Soscol Headwaters Park in Napa--now due to officially open to the public with a ribbon cutting ceremony on October 22nd, after years of hard work.

This was a seemingly simple project, building a French drain to get the trail past a seep that turned the lcoal dirt into adobe clay. Actually, the drain would get the seep past the trail without creating a mudhole. We'd done this quite a few times before.

Only this time it turned out that the seep was more like three or four seeps. A small project turned into a larger project. And it didn't help that the adobe clung to our shovels and McCleods like glue--not to mention our boots. What fun.

Still, we made good progress. They trail will open on schedule. And if the seeps continue to make trouble, we'll go back again and get muddy. Really muddy.

Photos are here, at the end of the series: https://photos.app.goo.gl/gX4GzkU7mTDmCZ9t8

And yes, we did eat a delicious hot lunch thanks to volunteer coordinator Ryan!
