Ranger Dan Courtwright has planned the perfect short backpacking trip for his niece to celebrate her recent success in high school. But when her mother insists upon coming along, the trip takes on a different tone. 


All that would be fine until they run into some wild animals of the most dangerous kind: humans. When the trip turns into a race for survival it requires all of Dan’s backcountry knowledge and expertise. And even then, that might not be enough.
