We love barbecues and all the food they can create. And the 4th of July is the day of all days for a barbecue. But that's when you are at home, or in a campground, on in a picnic area that has facilities for barbecues.
Becuase some of the worst wildfires in the history of the Sierra have been started by people who just wanted a fire to cook on or sit around.
Please don't. And if fires are prohibited in areas like Desolation Wilderness, or most of the Sierra above 9,400 feet ( or 10,000, if you;re south of the San Joaquin River) please follow those rules. Wildfires can be devastating. And the firewood you burn at high elevation is the very organic material that life needs up in those stressful conditions.
