Walking around the neighborhood

Just because it's winter doesn't meant you can't get out for a nice walk. And while the Sierra is seriously short on snow right now, many people will stick close to home as the holidays approach.

But it's amazing what you see when you get out and walk. The photo above was taken as I walked along the Napa River late in the afternoon. A beautiful slice of the natural world, and very few people around to enjoy it.

A day later M and I were walking along the Riverwalk in downtown Napa when we caught sight of a family of otters, first swimming, then climbing out and frolicking along the shore.

You may not see something this great on every walk--we don't--but you will never see anything like it if you stay inside. Hope you get a change to get out and let nature show you what it has to offer.
