Bones vs. Muscles

I have noticed a significant change in the way my body respnds to exercies. It seems to be part of getting older. sigh.

As a younger person (I am now 74) I was quite active in sports, and frequently felt sore after vigorous exercise. It was a good kind of sore, muscles a bit achy, and the overall feeling of having given it my all. Sore muscles, happy mind. Lots of endorphins. I would feel those muscles for a day or two or three, and then feel both better and even possibly stronger than before. Exercise more, feel better, get stronger.

But these days it's not the muscles that hurt, it's the bones. And bones don't ever hurt in a good way. They just hurt. They hurt before I get my full dose of endorphins. And they seem to continue to hurt whether I exercise more or not. Yes, I have arthritis in my knees. And despite all the exercise I can manage, they still hurt.

So yeah, getting old sucks.  It does, however, beat the alternative in most cases.
