Trees across the Trail

I spent yesterday with a crew of volunteers from the Stanislaus Wilderness Volunteers, clearing trees from the County Line Trailhead toward Sword Lake.

And there were some big trees to clear. Hikers had created new use trails around many if these, degrading the whole area.

While I was there, I spent an hour or two cutting back the whitethorn that made hiking the trail and exercise in pain management.

High point of the day? A group of young people leading their adult chaperones along the trail, heading for camp at Sword Lake. A number of the young hikers made an effort to thank me for the work I was doing!
