Over this past holiday season we really enjoyed taking advantage of some of the local highlights to get outdoors and see a few things. We've even take a few short hikes along the way. With our kids in town, we visited Ano Nuevo State Park and Point Reyes, where we met some seriouslay large sea life.

The photos here are from Point Reyes.

And around Napa, the scenery has been lovely as well-and we've even seen beavers in the Napa River twice. Sorry, but it was so dark that the photos didn't really capture the moment, but it ws fun to see. They only seem to come out quite late in the evening, almost after dusk, and swim up and around Napa Creek, just fifty years from downtown.

If you'd told me, thirty years ago, that there would be beavers living onoy two blocks from our house, I would have laughed at you. Now I'm smiling.
