Stewardship in spades

When I picked up my most recent permit in Yosemite, I was happy to hear the wilderness ranger there encourage people to be “active stewards” of the wilderness.

Included in that action were suggestions that we should do more than just observe the rules. We should help others do the same. We should protect their non-compliant campsites from bears. We should leave campsites in a less impacted state than we found them. We should make sure others knew about the ban on fires in the high country. In short, we should be active, not passive stewards. And no new fire rings!


I couldn’t agree more.
