Permission Granted...or not

Based in the input we're getting from various sources, you will need to be careful to use the correct browser when you start looking for wilderness permits on Recreation.gov.

Yes, it turns out that some browsers will not let you fill out the needed fields for a permit. Instead, you get this message: "something went wrong, unexpected error, try again later." And "later" isn't any better. It's hard to believe, but the site simply doesn't function with some browsers.

If you use Firefox, try switching to Chrome, which seems to work better. This is NOT an endorsement of Chrome as a browser. We are just troubleshooting the issues with Recreation.gov.

And while we are on the topic, you SHOULD be looking at premits by now. Some areas in the Sierra are already completely booked for certain dates on popular trailheads--the only permits left are those available much closer to the date of you hike.

Be prepared!
