Since we had spent the last month car camping with our kids, we were a bit out of practice with the backpacking gear. And M took a new (very old) Kelty pack to see how that would work.

Here's camp, with M's pack on display:

We managed to forget/misplace/not think through the following items:

> The foam seats we normally bring were left at home.

> The whistle and thermometer on M's old pack stayed right there....on M's old pack at home.

> M brought the nearest cooking gas canister, which had us quite nervous about breakfast on the last day. (We just had enough to cook the oatmeal!)

> I forgot our cutting board, which made slicing up the sausage and cheese a bit more of challenge

> And since were were only going for a couple of nights, we each decided on a minimum of gear. which meant that when the weather got cooler than expected, we were wearing everything, including our PJs, to stay warm.

The good news? It was a great trip, and we survived just fine.
