When we were hiking in Joshua Tree National Park this week, we happened upon a trail crew working on water dams. Water dams in the desert? Who knew?
At any rate, they were using a small track-driven mechanical mule to carry their materials into the back country. It made its way up and over a rough trail, carrying everything from wooden posts to rocks. Pretty cool.
No, we're not advocating this for use by backpackers. But it does make you think. We are not getting any younger...and those packs are heavy! I wonder what these cost?
Just kidding.
