Garnet Fire

Since we live in Napa, we are well acquainted with the issue of wildfires. And they have affected enough of our backpacking in the Sierra to always be a concern. The Camp Fire actually trapped us at Lake Thomas Edison for most of a day because the road was closed. And we've changed our plans or hiked out of areas any number of times because of fires.


The Garnet Fire is now causing some concern in the Sierra National Forest. It's just to the west of Kings Canyon National Park, and is up t over 15,000 acres with little containment. Given the warm weather predicted over the next few days, it's not going to get any better soon.


Be careful. We've left areas simply because we didn't want to breathe that smoke--let along face a potential fire danger. And for goodness sake, please don't make any campfires up in the Sierra in these conditions. All it takes is a puff of wind...
