Death Valley Traffic?

Interesting story about the leading cause of death in Death Valley--which turns out to be traffic accidents. Then again, the park has more miles of roads that any other national park--although a lot of them are unpaved,

But once you've read the story, there is at least one comment that makes you think maybe the writer doesn't know quite so much about the national parks as you might like.

"The three parks with the highest risk factor — Wrangell-St. Elias National Park in Alaska, Dry Tortugas National Park in Florida and Virgin Islands National Park — are all parks with water-based recreation where drownings rank as the leading cause of death."

Well. That's certainly true for Dry Tortugas and Virgin Islands, but if you think that most of the recreation in Wrangell-Elias is "water-based" you haven't been near it. The drownings in that park are hikers trying to cross swollen glacier rivers, not snorkelers exploring the reefs!
