The last snow survey report says this: "The final snow surveys for 2022 have been completed by park staff. The Merced Drainage is at 33% and Tuolumne Drainage is at 31% of average snow depth and water content."

While this may mean that trails and passes are opening earlier than usual, it's desperately sad news for our rivers and water systems.

We're already seeing trip reports from Hetch-hetchy and beyond, with minimal snow at the lower elevations. What this will mean for trips later in the summer remains to be seen, but this is not good news.
