Now that I am retired, I spend at least two weeks every year helping out in the Sierra, either doing trail work or volunteer patrolling for various National Forests. I also help out with a few organizations closer to home.

You meet great people, you do something good for the world, and you pay forward some of the joy that the wilderness has given to you. What's not to like?

You don't have to sign up for a week long trail crew---many organizations have single day, or even single morning activities that can really make a difference. Find out what you can do near your home, or check in the with any National Forest about their volunteer program.

See you out there.
