Those pesky illegal campsites

Yes, you should read your permit. 100 feet from water.We recommend fifty steps, which may be overkill on a flat surface, but not if you are negotiating more difficult terrain.


And how do we "restore" these sites? Check out the photo log of my trail crew trips this year to see example of what we do: cover them with rocks, cover them with logs, half-bury rocks in the worst cases.


IF you see a place that looks like it would be a great campsite except for those rocks there...


Think again. Maybe those rocks were placed by a crew, to discourage people from camping too close to water, or in an area targeted for restoration. Please.
