Eclipse Corner on the Trail

I spent yesterday working on a trail crew with the team from Mariposa Trails just outside Yosemite along the South Fork of the Merced River. And while we worked hard, addressing the issues of erosion for a series of season creeks that had created gullies across the trail, we also made sure to observe the eclipse.

Here's a photo I took using the sleeve of a chain saw to create a pinhole camera on the rocks we were moving:

But we also got some good work done, wedging and stacking logs into the gullies and then filling in the trail to make it viable for both horses and people. Hard work in the sun, but rewarding!

Here's the before picture:

The next time you hike on a trail, give the people who do this work a thought---and maybe a thanks!
